The Workshop
In Palestrina's 500th anniversary year we will look at his 5-part motet Confitebur Tibi Domini (I will praise you with my whole heart) and parts of the 8-part mass he wrote based on it (lamb of God have mercy on us).
Then we turn to Cipriano de Rore and his Jubilate Deo a5 (rejoice in the Lord, all the earth) and his exquisitely beautiful prayer to the virgin Ave Regina Caelorum a7.
Pitch will be A=440.
The Tutor
Alison is a founder member of Chelys consort of viols where she enjoys researching, performing and recording programmes covering all aspects of consort music. She also has a particular interest in 'Renaissance' viols (early viols made with no soundpost) with The Linarol Consort, who play on copies of the earliest surviving viol made by Francesco Linarol. Alison has a great love of working with singers, and the affinity between the sound of the viol and the voice. One of her favourite places to be is as the gamba player with Musica Secreta, an all-female polyphonic ensemble specialising in the research and performance of music by and for early modern women.
Alison also loves making the music she enjoys accessible to as many people as possible, which is a particular focus of the relatively new group Sounds Historical where she plays recorders (and the occasional crumhorn..!) A keen teacher of both children and adults, Alison is a tutor on a number of Early Music courses including the Easter Early Music Course, Norvis, the Danish Renaissance Music Week, and she regularly leads workshops for the various Early Music Fora. She is co-director of Rondo Viol Academy, which runs weekend courses for players of all standards from Elementary to Advanced.
The Venue
Leckhampton Village Hall has level access and good facilities. There is limited parking at the hall, best left for those with large instruments and with mobility issues, please.
On street parking is available and free.
We recommend that you bring a packed lunch, though there is a small co-op nearby: it doesn't sell sandwiches.
Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided on arrival and at the tea break. A volunteer to help with this would be appreciated!
