The Workshop
The workshop features motets centred around the theme of Pentecost. Before this year, only 1 of the motets on the workshop programme had been previously performed or recorded. Mark has recently recorded first versions of the latter two and a new recording of the first on the list below.Â

Singers and instrumentalists are encouraged as we will look at the relationship between voice and instruments side by side.
The Leader
Mark has an illustrious career as a bassoonist and player of renaissance wind instruments, as a countertenor and conductor.
As an award-winning bassoonist, he is a founder member of the Inventus Quartet. He works regularly with several of the country’s leading period instrument orchestras. He founded, and is musical director of Ensemble La Notte, which performs music of the 17th and 18th centuries on period instruments. He founded the English Wind Consort in 2023; its repertoire explores music from the 14th to 17th centuries.
Mark has sung countertenor with many cathedral choirs, notably Birmingham Cathedral Choir and with other groups including the Lassus Consort.
He was appointed Director of Music at Pembroke College, Oxford, in 2022 and he conducts the Oxford University Society’s Alumni Choir (Standish Consort) in Gloucestershire.
The Venue
St John’s Church was founded in 1270, closely associated with Keynsham Abbey (dissolved in 1539). The church tower was rebuilt in the 17th century. It is a large, welcoming church which has pride of place at the end of the High Street. As well as the church, we will have access to the adjoining Parish Hall for refreshments and somewhere to eat our picnic lunch, if wished. There are several cafés, food shops and pubs in or near the High Street.
Keynsham is situated between Bristol and Bath. It has excellent public transport links; several buses, including the 43 from Bristol, stop in the High Street adjoining the church. Keynsham Station is served by frequent trains from Bristol Temple Meads and Bath; the church is a short uphill walk from the station. The town has several car parks; the main car park, Ashton Way, is behind the High Street on the opposite side to the church; there is a 4 hour time limit. Other car parks, including Station, Bath Hill East, Labbotts way and Civic centre, have a 10h time limit. There is free parking in the streets behind the Ashton Way car park.
