The poet Samuel Daniel and his lutenist brother John Danyel were both born in Somerset and rose to be among the best in their fields. This programme explores lute songs associated with the two brothers and with other notables connected with them, such as Sir Philip Sidney, the Earl of Essex, Anne of Denmark, and the tragic young Prince Henry. Of particular interest are John's lute-song settings of poetical texts by Samuel. Sophia Brumfitt, mezzo soprano Din Ghani, lutes.
