Musicke in the Ayre conclude their 2025 concert series at St Mary’s Bathwick with a programme of some of their favourite solos and duets from England, France and Italy during the 16th and 17th centuries. The imagery of nymphs and shepherds frolicking in an Arcadian wilderness was much favoured by the poets of the period who used it to elaborate on the pleasures and pains of love.
Lutenist Din Ghani will accompany sopranos Jane Hunt and Philippa Neaverson, both well-known in the classical singing scene in Bath, and both long-standing members of Musicke in the Ayre. The songs were mostly composed by Court composers such as Caccini and Frescobaldi in Italy, Robert Johnson and William Lawes and English, and Lambert and Boesset in France.
