Widely regarded as one of the finest tenors of his generation, James Gilchrist performs a programme of lute-song repertoire with recital partner Mark Eden, winner of the Julian Bream prize. Their recital features songs by Dowland and his contemporary John Coprario, whose 'Songs of Mourning' were written to mark the death of Prince Henry in 1612. Set in dialogue with this repertoire from the golden age of lute music is a 20th-century song cycle by Ailsa Dixon, a founder member of the Lute Society.
