Four hundred years ago, John Dowland’s death marked the beginning of the end of the lute’s golden age in England.

This programme explores a century of changing musical styles, from the intimate lute songs of Dowland and his contemporaries to the more dramatic Baroque world of Nicholas Lanier and Henry Purcell. Through the music of three generations, discover how the unique partnership of voice and lute evolved from the Renaissance into the Baroque.

Musicke in the Ayre present the voices of Alysha Paterson and Alice Simmons, accompanied as usual by Din Ghani on various lutes and baroque guitar.
Performance will be in the Church Hall.
