Hannah Grove – soprano and recorder Elizabeth Pallett – lute and guitar The legendary outlaw Robin Hood is as well-known today as he was in the 14th century. Famed for forest hunting and archery, his appeal is universal as a hero in defence of the common people. Many songs have been handed down through the centuries that tell of the adventures of Robin Hood and the well-known characters that he is associated with. Tales from Sherwood Forest is a collection of these ancient tunes, that have transcended the centuries. Amarylli brings to life these stories by piecing together the poetical literature with the music that was commonplace as part of an aural tradition. The programme presents literature that spans seven centuries of storytelling and concludes with a poignant setting of John Keats’ poem Robin Hood - “No, the Bugle Sounds No More.”
