Hildegard of Bingen and Barbara Strozzi of Venice were separated by 5 centuries and a whole edifice of differences: one was an abbess in the heart of 12th century Germany, while the other was an independent woman in permissive Seicento Venice; however, both wrote wonderful music.
Singers Carmel Edwards, Jane Hunt and Alice Simmons, with Din Ghani on various lutes and baroque guitar, will explore music by them and other women within and without the church (including Vizzana, Leonarda, Cozzolani and Francesca Caccini).
Interval refreshments.
