Ben is an internationally renowned conductor, teacher and innovator. In 2020 he was awarded the BEM. In 2022 he received the University of Bristol's Alumni Award for Community Engagement and Impact. A graduate of this University, he trained as a conductor with Dr Alan Rump and Dr Adrian Beaumont, before going on to study conducting with Denise Ham of the London Conducting Academy. As a former music teacher and Director of Music Ben has run musical events across Bristol and South Gloucestershire. Today he teaches music and conducting as part of Homechoir’s Deep Dives and Choir of the Earth's Around Sound series. Ben is the Musical Director of the Nailsea Concert Orchestra, recently conducting a performance of Beethoven’s 7th symphony. In March 2020 he founded the Quarantine Choir as a way of learning, singing and performing online during lockdown. Now called Homechoir, this choir numbers thousands who join him on YouTube on four days a week. In March 2020 Ben was appointed Musical Director of the Self-Isolation Choir. Their inaugural project, Messiah at Home, was featured on the BBC and many foreign stations. In 2021 he was appointed Conductor of the UWE Bristol Singers, a choir of students, staff, alumni and others, singing a programme of classical and contemporary music, with workshops, masterclasses and performances.
We will be working on the choruses from Vivaldi’s Gloria. Ben has produced some teaching videos which singers might find helpful if they don’t know the piece:-
