Lute songs (and duets) by Campion and colleagues: a selection from his huge output
Thomas Campion - celebrated poet, prolific composer, respected physician - died on 1st March 1620; we celebrate this anniversary with a delightful programme of works chosen from his 5 published books of ayres, as well as from some of the courtly masques that he wrote. Campion's songs cover a wide range: from witty to wistful, mirthful to mournful, saucy to spiritual - but always entertaining! We also include settings of some of his texts by colleagues such as Dowland, Coperario and Jones. Some of the pieces are performed as duets.
Bristol-based sopranos Heidi Couper and Ruth Bamfield regroup with lutenist Din Ghani under the Musicke in the Ayre banner to renew their collaboration from two years ago (when they first performed at St Stephen's). Free entry, with a retiring collection.
