Leigh Village Hall, nr Yeovil

This workshop day will look at a variety of Christmas music from Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Somerset and Gloucestershire. Much of it will be drawn from manuscripts of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries – the so-called West Gallery period. The music is characterised by its danceable rhythms and its gorgeous harmonies and fugued entries. The words of the songs may be familiar but it is likely that the music will not. This is exciting music to play and sing.

The day is primarily intended for singers but instruments such as fiddles, flutes and woodwind are entirely appropriate, though it will not be possible to provide transposed notation for instruments that require it. Pitch will be A = 440.
