The Workshop
Workshop with Ben England BEM, for SATB voices and strings.
We will be working on Purcell Rejoice in the Lord Alway and Monteverdi Beatus Vir.
Pitch will be A=415.
Ben will be producing teaching and revision materials for the choirs on his Homechoir YouTube channel in November.

The Tutor
Ben is an internationally renowned conductor, educator and innovator, who has received wide acclaim for his pioneering work with online music-making. He is the principal of Earth Choir Academy, a newly founded non-profit organisation, dedicated to building and supporting the choral repertoire through exceptional teaching. In October 2020, Ben was honoured with the British Empire Medal by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in the Birthday Honours for his work during COVID He received a Commendation by the Royal Philharmonic Society in December 2020, the Music and Drama Education Awards “Inspiration Award” in 2022 and the University of Bristol Alumni Award for Community Engagement and Impact in 2022.
Ben is the musical director of Choir of the Earth, an online choir with thousands of members, which has grown to one of the largest choirs in the world. Their inaugural project Messiah at Home was shown on BBC Evening News and around the world. Ben is the founder of Homechoir – a new way of learning, singing and performing fun and engaging music from home. He has led international tours of the great choral works, conducting in first rate venues from concert halls to cathedrals. He recently led a performance of Messiah in Dublin on the anniversary of its first performance, and in 2024 he conducted Mozart’s Requiem in Salzburg. He is also the Musical Director of the North Somerset Philharmonia, conducting performances including Mahler’s 4th symphony, Scheherazade, Enigma Variations and The Lark Ascending. His projects have raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for charity.
A graduate of the University of Bristol, where he specialised in conducting, Ben’s career has spanned over 30 years, working with numerous choirs and orchestras around the world.
The Venue
There is a good car park at the school, but participants are encouraged to travel by public transport if practicable. Nailsea and Backwell mainline station is about a 15-20 minute walk away and various buses serve the stop at Backwell Crossroads which is equidistant from the school.
