Music for Renaissance Wind Band
directed by
Tim Bayley of the York Waits
Tim has studied, performed and tutored Renaissance wind and brass for thirty years, exploring this repertoire with his colleagues in the York Waits. He frequently gives early music demonstrations and leads performance workshops, including at Chalemie and HISS.
The aim of the day is to enjoy the rich and varied sonorities of a Renaissance Wind Band.
Applications welcome from players of Renaissance wind instruments – shawms, sackbutts, cornetts, curtals, crumhorns, recorders, etc.
Please ask the organiser about any instruments not listed above.
Pitch will be A=440. Please bring your own music stand.
Players should be able to sight-read a part with a high level of accuracy on their chosen instruments. This is not a suitable course for complete beginners.
Venue: Harwood Hall, Christchurch, Malvern Road, Cheltenham. GL50 2JH
The workshop will be in the Harwood Hall at Christchurch, Malvern Road, Cheltenham. GL50 2JH.
It is a high-ceilinged, modern, spacious room immediately adjoining the church.
About a mile from the centre of Cheltenham, it is only half-a-mile from the train station, accessible (should you wish) by a footpath/cycle-path on the course of the old Honeybourne railway track.
From central Cheltenham the D bus could be used, but will only save you about half the walk.
For car-users, there is limited car-parking at the church - about 12 spaces. There is 6 hours free parking on a number of nearby roads, but restrictions vary on different streets.
There are no very close shops/cafes, but Waitrose is a quarter-mile away
(other stores are available, but at a greater distance).
£22 per person (EMF members), £24 for non-members.
Full payment and contact details are on the application form.
