Improvisations and compositions by some of musical history's great improvisers to celebrate the patroness of musicians, St Cecilia, on her saint day. The programme includes sonatas by Biber, a toccata of Kapsberger, a concerto by Vivaldi, a motet and a fantasia by William Byrd - whose anniversary year it is - one of Messiaen’s preludes, and the Wondrous Machine from Purcell’s Ode for St Cecilia’s Day. These will be interspersed with a series of improvisations and some settings of prayers sung a cappella, to make up an evening full of sonic colour, meditation and joyous diversity. This group of category-defying musicians will take you on a profound journey from dark to light in this beautiful EcoChurch in the centre of the ancient city of Bath.
David Gordon - Church Organ, Piano
Yair Avidor - Theorbo, Lute, Guitar
Ben Hazleton - Double Bass
