A concert of Spanish and English songs that form a backdrop to the tumultuous Anglo-Spanish relationship during the 16/17th centuries. Spanning the period from when Henry VIII broke with Rome through to the restoration of the British monarchy, the programme covers a wide range of styles, from early villancicos to Elizabethan lute ayres, as well as stage songs from zarzuelas and Purcellian semi-operas. Soprano Carmel Edwards will be accompanied by Din Ghani on lute, vihuela and baroque guitar.
