A workshop for Instruments
Cheddar, 14th October 2017
We had fewer applicants for this event this year probably due to the fact that, being in October, the date coincided with other events. However, 16 players had a very enjoyable day playing in three pre-arranged groups, which were changed for each of the four sessions. Music played included quintets for four recorders and continuo by Legrenzi and Keller; a session of French trio sonata for two flutes and continuo by Hotteterre and Dornel, and others for recorder and flute by Quantz and Telemann; and quartets for three recorders and continuo by Boismortier. One session worked on a Cantata by Telemann, Ihr Völker, hört for mezzo-soprano, recorder and continuo. One of the final sessions included a version of Bach’s Brandenburg concerto No. 4 with two recorders and obbligato harpsichord (rather than the usual violin).
All the music was provided and the school is a very convenient and welcoming venue.
Next year we plan to hold a similar event on Saturday 29th September. So please put the date in your next year’s Diary!
